Obesity Increase: Is 2035 The New Doomsday Year?

1 min read

A new report done by the World Obesity Federation states that over half the world’s population will be overweight or obese by the year 2035.

To be more precise roughly 51 percent of the population will be classified as overweight or obese. That is estimated to be around 4 billion people. Rates of obesity are rising in children and people of lower income countries.

The World Obesity Federation is urging policy makers from around the world of different countries to start acting now.

The rising obesity rate could double with children from 2020 to 2035 to 208 million in boys and 175 million in girls. The greatest areas to see rising obesity in the coming years are more poor countries in Africa and Asia.

Due to obesity causing significantly more health problems it could raise the amount of money that needs to be put into countries healthcare in order to sustain this. It is estimated that it will cost an additional 4 trillion USD or 3 percent of global GDP to sustain these rates due to the health problems obesity causes. If the world still proceeds down this path and the adequate money is invested into countries’ healthcare systems, then they will become constrained.

38 percent of the world’s population fall under the obese or overweight category as of the year 2020. Due to the predicted increase of obesity, this data will be presented to the United Nations and member states.
